the/Govr. of Hong Kong, in which he .

discusses the general question of

recruitment in Hong Kong of Chinese

labour for service abroad. The

discussion has arisen out of applications

to recruit Chinese labour in Hong Kong

for service in Sarawak and Dutch East

Borneo.

2. As Sir Austen Chamberlain is

no doubt aware, the Cabinet decided on

the 29th June that, from the political

point of view, it was impossible to

acquiesce in a proposal to introduce

Chinese labourers into the New Hebrides.
